MoBos: Stay away from MSI motherboards..there are many reports of them frying easily / dead arrivals.
I would buy a Gigabyte or ASUS motherboard, they're the best manufacturers on the market at the moment but make sure you buy one that has plenty of upgradable slots (PCI-E slots, plenty of RAM slots, ect). They also make motherboards specifically for gaming so be sure to check out newegg, or better yet tigerdirect.com. I've done many comparisons between the two websites and their prices and found that both have many different things that are cheaper on the other site, so make sure you run the same product by both sites to see if you can save some money. I know from helping an online friend build a computer that tigerdirect delivers VERY fast (he lives in northern US and got his monitor the next day after he bought it with no overnight shipping and he was in snowstorm after snowstorm.)
As far as ram goes, i would recommend NOT getting over 4gb. You will never use more than 4gb while gaming unless you're going to play very high end games on the highest settings possible while checking your email and playing around in other programs at the same time (I'm not sure about vista, but I only use about 1.6GB of my ram while gaming). If money isn't an issue, then go ahead and feel free to upgrade to 8gb or whatever you'd like.
Brands that I would recommend: OCZ, Kingston, and Corsair. Just make sure that what you buy is over 800MHz (1066MHz is a great speed) and DDR3 / dual channel is also nice to have.
Processors are a very important part in your system, so I would get a Dual core or better. I'm personally on a tri core processor right now (AMD Phenom X3) @ 2.3GHz and I LOVE it. Quad cores are very nice but pricey. I would point you toward AMD processors if you're going to be gaming on your new computer.. They just seem to be faster. I've never had a problem with AMD while i had the exact opposite with Intel. Just make sure its a dual core or better and it's clocked @ 2.3+GHz and you should be ok.
Edit: I almost forgot to tell you to make sure that everything in your computer is compatible with the motherboard and that the power supply can support everything that you're putting in there. If it's not, then your computer most likely won't work at all.
Good luck man. PM me if you need anymore help, hopefully this was what you were looking for.

This is a great build to have Boaz..but it's a bit pricey so if you're looking to save money just downgrade some things.
However, I would go ahead and get a 10,000RPM hard drive if you're going to get a Quad core because what's the use of having a quad core if your things don't load any faster? Lol.
